Results of the insect of the year 2020 campaign

Kaunas Tadas Ivanauskas Zoology Museum entomologist Dr Romas Ferenca and President of Lithuanian Entomological Society, Dr Andrius Petrašiūnas published an article on results of the insect of the year Horned Dung Beetle (Copris lunaris) campaign. When the Horned Dung Beetle has announced an insect of the year by the Lithuanian Entomological Society, brief instruction and a short description of the Beatle were published online.

During this period, four reports of 20 beetles were received. The sites were the beatle was found was recorded in fourteen locations: Jurbarkas, Kaunas, Lazdijai, Šilalė, Trakai, Ukmergė, Varėna and Zarasai districts.

The Horned Dung Beetle was added to the most recent list of Protected species in Lithuania (Lietuvos Respublikos, 2019), in a way inspiring to name it as the „Insect of the Year 2020“ in order to collect more data on the distribution of this species in the country.
